Diving into a Unusual Steam Demo: Guiding a Poop on a Quest to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and enthusiasts have discovered plenty of engaging creations from small studios. Yet, one catches the eye for its offbeat concept. Named Unko Technica, this classic-feel side-scrolling game lets you play a protagonist that is actually a turd striving to navigate to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."
How you interact is easy to grasp: press a single jump button. Across 150 levels, encounter tough enemies and unlock a store to buy skins for your dung hero.
Time your jumps precisely, as a mistake requires starting over. Bounce on bubbles to propel yourself upward, navigate crumbling platforms, and interact with buttons to unlock secret routes. Collect currency for buying tougher stages as the action intensifies.
Graphically, the demo boasts neon level designs and a killer background music. Its minimalist graphics featuring shifting basic polygons could recall gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.
Even though tough to think of previous releases where you are a piece of feces, gaming often featured toilet humor. For example, in Death Stranding, you can create grenades from character droppings. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as soil enrichment. Naturally, fecal references appears a lot in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Putting aside its goofy premise, Unko Technica has already received significant recognition, including winning at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is ready at present on Steam, with the full game set to debut on Steam on November 19.
